Save Money on Food

by Jayne Leigh Hull

I needed to save money and since I spend a lot of money on food, more than I would like, I decided to stop eating out so much. This meant I had to figure out how to spend less money on groceries and this article shows you just how I did that. Follow in my footsteps and you will be well on your way.

You have to figure out where the cheapest and best places are to shop. You might have to try a few different places and places you might normally overlook to find the best deals on food. Don’t go to the same store just because you’ve shopped there for years. You might be missing some great deals and spending more than you need to.

Check the fliers. This is important preparation for making a menu. Planning a menu based on sales just makes good sense. You will understand the beauty of this the more you do it. Saving a couple of bucks per pound on meats doesn’t sound like a lot the first time, but this one habit will save you hundreds of dollars over the year.

A great way to have a great menu planned is make a master list of recipes. This is a simple and easy way to remember everything you and your family like to eat. You have recipes you love that you forget to make, but with a list you can easily refer to you will be able to make things you love and to keep your menus fresh with new things to eat.

Make a master list of recipes and then have different sections for each type of recipe or food like vegetarian, soups, side dishes, chicken, etc. So let’s say ground beef is available at a great sale price, then you just look at your list of ground beef recipes and pick one or two that sound good to you and put it on your menu.

I hope you can feel confident and armed to tackle your food budget. As they say, everything worth having doesn’t come free. So yes, you will have to put forth a little more effort, but the rewards for your wallet and health are priceless. I’m sure you agree.

One of the easiest ways to save is simply to eat less. The less you eat the less you have to spend on groceries. I’m not suggesting you starve yourself, to the contrary, but if you are overeating you are overspending. Plus, its not healthy to overeat and if you have children you are instilling life long bad habits.

Have simple meals. You don’t need 4 sides or even complicated main dishes. As long as it is tasty and there is enough no one will care. I really think that’s true. Have good staples around and forgo the recipes with ingredient lists a mile long and save yourself the hassle as well as money.
