Save Lots of Money on Food

by Jayne Leigh Hull

I needed to save money and since I spend a lot of money on food, more than I would like, I decided to stop eating out so much. This meant I had to figure out how to spend less money on groceries and this article shows you just how I did that. Follow in my footsteps and you will be well on your way.

You need to decide what your best options are where you live for shopping. For some it may be warehouse stores, regular grocery stores or a discount grocery store. Make sure you aren’t shopping at the wrong place just because it is habit. Be willing to look around for less expensive options.

Check all of the fliers. To save money on food it really helps to prepare for your shopping by planning a menu. If you find chicken on sale- then you know that it would probably be a good idea to have chicken for dinner. Put whatever is on sale into your menu.

So you check the fliers. Well, if you need a little extra help one of the best ways to plan a menu based on whats on sale is to keep a master list of recipes. It’s simple and its a great reference for when you are looking at the sales and you can’t figure out what to make. You try a new recipes sometimes and forget about it, but if you put it on your list, you know it will make it into the rotation.

By making a master list of recipes, you will enable yourself to have an easy way to check fliers and plan a menu on the sales. Making different sections on your list under each type of food will give you a super easy reference point. If chicken is on sale, you look under your chicken recipes and then work that into your menu. Easy.

I think it is important to have a determined attitude about saving money especially when it comes to saving money on food. It will take effort, but that effort is so worth it and you will only continue to reap benefits the longer you put forth that effort. Nothing worth having comes free.

Eat less food. Yep. Most of us could stand to eat less and you will save money doing this. Don’t polish off the pot roast and you now have leftovers for tomorrows lunch. A free meal philosophically speaking.

Don’t be afraid of simple filling meals. The less ingredients you have to buy will the less money you will spend. And even if you like to cook it will be less stressful. And if you don’t like to cook, then this will make it easier to cook at home and avoid the temptation of eating out.
